Protagonists:[]

StorySelect

The player is given between playing either Momohime or Kisuke. Both of their stats and data are saved in one data file.

Difficulty:[]

Before starting the game, the player must choose between one of the 2 difficulties, "Muso" and "Shura". Muso is the normal difficulty while Shura is the hard difficulty in the game. In Shura, the player deals less damage, enemies do more damage and auto-block is disabled, meaning you can get hit even when attacking. During the gameplay, the player can choose to swap difficulties at any time under the Setting section even when in battle.

If the game is completed on Shura mode, a 3rd difficulty is unlocked called "Shigurui". Once this difficulty is chosen, you cannot change to the other two. This difficulty leaves you with 1 Life Flame regardless of level. However, auto-block is enabled.

Forging, Weapons, Items & Cooking:[]

You may forge weapons when you collect enough Soul and Spirit required. Soul can be collected as you travel, and Spirit is collected by eating. The Forging mechanic works similar to a skill tree; you must forge one before the other. Once these blades are forged, you may equip them using the equipment menu. Items are either bought from peddlers (basically shops) or found as you explore. Cooking is unlocked as you buy or find cookbooks.

Combat:[]

Your travels will not be problem-free. As you travel, there is a high chance that you will encounter dozens of enemies. You will know to engage in combat when you enter an area and an exclamation point appears in the middle of the screen. your character draws their weapon, and you will fight. You may equip items into your shortcut menu to assist you during the fight, including but not limited to: food, stones, and assistive items such as bronze mirrors and smoke bombs.

Traveling:[]

Momohime and Kisuke must travel to several locations in order to proceed in the story. Along with encountering enemies, they may also encounter the following:

Barriers:[]

Barriers are essentially the game's way of locking an area from the game so that you know where to go to progress through the story. The developers actually made a very interesting choice as to how they deal with removing the barriers. Rather than removing them without your knowledge, the developers tell you that you must defeat each boss in order to earn a Demon Blade. Said Demon Blade has the power to destroy a certain barrier, thus allowing you further access in the map.

Restaurants & Peddlers:[]

Some of the provinces have their own unique restaurants and peddlers that sell similar things, but also different items that pertain to that province. To utilize these services, the player is able to obtain money from defeating enemies along the way.

Ryo and Mon

Money is used throughout the game to buy supplies such as Consumable Items, Cooking Supplies, Maps, and Accessories. There are two types of money used in the game: Ryo and mon. Mon is the main type of currency used throughout the game to buy items. A ryo represents 10,000 mon.

Trivia[]

  • The plot setting of the game story was actually based on a real life event history of japan that also took in the same time and era as well but without the supernatural powers occurring but rather a warring states of different family royal clans in japan that are basically enemies to one another
  • It's game developer vanillaware that also created other games that are kin to it such as odin sphere, where this game and muramasa are both created by the same game developer company with same creator that shares the same universe but odin sphere's main storyline called "erion saga" took place in the near end of the 8th century in 784 A.D. 911 years earlier before the main storyline of muramasa took place that was set during the edo period of japan at it's genroku era range around (1688-1704) in the final remaining years of the 17th century in 1695.
